The Carian Trail is an 800 km long distance walking path exploring the South Western corner of Turkey through the modern provinces of Muğla and Aydın.The trail is named after the Carian civilization discovering a region rich in ancient ruins and history, stone paved caravan roads and mule path connecting villages from the coast to a mountaineous hinterland. Pine forest cloak mountain slopes with olive terraces and almond grove in the valley's make up an important part of the regions economy. The trail acceses a lesser known and unspoilt region full of colour and tradition along with spectacular scenery.
    DAY 1. Transfer Dalaman(airport)to Dalyan( 30 min.)
    Overnight Dalyan 

    DAY 2. HIKE Ekincik-Caunos-Dalyan (5 hrs)
    After breakfast and briefing, we embark on a boat tour down the Dalyan Delta past the ancient     rock tombs of Caunos. The boat journeys through a labyrinth of reed beds teeming with wildlife to Iztuzu Beach a marine turtle nesting zone. We continue out to sea and follow the coast past sea caves to Ekincik Bay to start our walk.     
    The route ascends through pine forest above the coast before descending inland through the village hamlet of Çandır to the ruins of Caunos. After a comprehensive tour of the ancient site we ferry across the river back to Dalyan.

    DAY 3. HIKE Amos-Kumlubük-Kayalıözü (6 hrs)
    We transfer to the ruins of Amos near the small resort of Turunç and walk along the beach at Kumlubük before rising through the forest past a ruined Byzantine church.
    The path ascends leaving the forest for clıff top views over Ciftlik Bay. The path then descends into the valley finishing at the village hamlet of Kayalıözü. Transfer to Selimiye

    DAY 4. HIKE Bahçeli- Taslıca – Cumhrriyet-Bozburun (7hrs)
    We transfer to the hamlet of Bahçelı and ascend towards the coast with fantastic views across to the island of Rhodes. The path continues above the dramatic coastline before heading inland to the village of Taslıca. The route then descends looking over the many islets of Bozburun bay to Cumhurriyet and round the coast to Bozburun. At the end of the hike we will have extra time to spend around the boat harbour of Bozburun. Return transfer to Selimiye

    DAY 5. Bayır-Şelale- Hydus-Turgut (5hrs)
    After a short transfer to the picturesque of village of Bayır, we stop at the centre at the village tea house by the massive old plane tree. The hike begins on a forest track ascending by the ravine before descending following the stream to Selale(waterfall). After lunch we continue our walk up to an unusual ancient tomb and the ancient site of Hydus with a spectacular view over the Bay of Selimiye. We descend and end our walk in the village of Turgut. Transfer to Datça (1.5 hrs)
    Overnight Datça

    We transfer to the north coast of the Datça Peninsula to the picturesque cove of Bükceğiz. Our trail ascends along the coast before dropping into the Değirmenbükü valley. From the beach the path cuts through maki forest up to a narrow valley protected by the defensive towers of Knidos. The trail descends through the ancient ruined city port with spectacular views of the Knidean harbours and the most south westerly tip of Turkey. Our walk continues to the end of the cape and 'Deveboynu Lighthouse where the Aegean and Mediterranean seas meet. The hike finishes by the ancient harbour followed by a transfer back to Datça.

    Our walk rises through coastal hills for some of the best views over the Datça Peninsula.
    The path eventually descends to the coast by a shepherds encampment and continues to the beach at Karaköy. After a short transfer back to Datça there is time to explore the town and do some shopping and explore the town.

    Hiking boots or strong shoes with good tread and ankle support, shorts and t-shirt (warm weather), fleece, waterproofs, day pack (35ltr. + -), walking trousers, long sleeved top, sun protection- hat, sunglasses, sun cream, insect repellant, walking poles recommended,
    beach towel, swim kit.

    Our private minibus and driver are accompanying us throughout the tour.

    In April daytime temps reach the low twenties (centigrade), mostly sunny but still chances of rain. In May the temperature rises to late twenties and less chance of rain.
    Evenings can still be quite cool in early April.
    From mid September through October, mainly sunny day with temps in mid twenties and warm evenings cooling down later in the season.
